Junior League of Ann Arbor

Our Mission - The Junior League of Ann Arbor, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Flexifund Grants

In addition to our signature projects, the Junior League of Ann Arbor awards Flexifund Grants to various community organizations each year.  An annual offering by JLAA, Flexifund grants are awarded to local organizations who apply for financial assistance in the amount of $1000 or less for projects appropriate to the League’s focus areas.

Local organizations awarded Flexifund grants in 2009:

  • Friends of CASA: $500. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national organization of volunteers that judges appoint to speak for the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children. The volunteer status ensures the children's well-being remains the sole objective of the CASAs.   The funds will be used to help cover the costs of training fifteen additional CASA volunteers.
  • Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: $1,000. The Ann Arbor chapter of the organization was able to raise more than $70,000 for research through its Light The Night Walk in fall 2009. The funds will be used to cover the costs of test swab kits for potential donors.
  • Family Book Club: $500. The mission of the Family Book Club is to ensure that all children in Washtenaw County have an equal opportunity to develop a love of reading by providing books and information and by sharing beliefs about the value of reading. The funds will be used to assist the organization reach it’s goal of completing 25 reading sessions in the community and reaching 500 children.
  • Huron Valley Ambulance Camp 911 Program: $1,000. At Camp 911, campers ages 8 to 12 explore many areas of EMS including visiting with paramedics, firefighters and police officers and touring a hospital emergency department. Campers also learn CPR and first aid. HVA offers these two-day programs free of charge thanks to the generosity of community businesses. The funds will help provide transportation to the summer camp.
  • 826michigan: $500. 826michigan is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.  The funds will be used to support the Girls Writing Club and their spring 2009 writing sessions as well as  help cover the costs of publication of the groups final project which is a culmination of the participant’s essays, poems and short stories.
